Driving can be easier and safer if they are roads are smooth and have the proper line markings.

Bare roads can confuse the drivers and can put them in dangerous situations. Markings help drivers to easily navigate and monitor in the right direction.

Road markings include symbols, lines, patterns, words that are either painted on the road or either attached to the surface of the road or the curb.

Road markings promote the smooth flow of traffic, keep all the drivers safe on the road and also help the pedestrians, cyclists to move for a safer location.

Pavement Markings

Pavement markings are very helpful but sometimes they can be tricky and most people cannot understand them.

Here are some basic things you should know about the line markings:

· White Lane Markings: White lane markings are the most common type of markings that most people are aware of but they don’t know what they signify.

Bold white lines signify for the vehicles to move in the same direction.

Broken white lines are to indicate the center of two different lanes.

· Yellow Lane Markings: Bold yellow line-markings signify the traffic is flowing in different directions and crossing the lines will have dire consequences of collision to the vehicle from the opposite sides.

Double Yellow lines indicate the traffic is flowing in different directions, you have to stick to your lane and should be careful not to cross the line as the vehicles for the opposite direction may be speeding up. If you want to pass another vehicle you have to make a way in your yellow lane not cross to the other side and overtake.

Combination of block and brake lines when you notice a block line along with the broken line it doesn’t permit you to cross to the other side. There are different rules on different locations and you have to know the rules to cross the specific place before you leap.

· Two-Lanes, Two-Direction With Some Passing: If there is a yellow block line in the middle of the road with a through road you cannot pass it unless it is allowed to and if it is not dangerous.

· Restricted Lane: On highways or multi lanes roads you may notice that one line has diamond markings on its path which signifies the particular lane is meant only for heavy occupancy vehicles or HOV the lane is also known as carpool lane, or T2 or transit lane.

· Reversible Lane: Reversible lanes are open only at a certain point of the day. For example, when people are rushing to work in the morning or when there is an emergency. The middle of the road is often the reversible lane, apart from “specific time” the lane will be closed with barricades to stop false traffic.

Directional Markings

Directional markings can be of various types like arrows, word messages, or directional signboards.

· Arrows are elongated on the surface of the road to make it easy for the drivers to read it.

· Word messages also fall under the directional markings, words messages are to be kept short not exceeding five words. They are elongated and written in bold for the visibility of drivers.

· STOP, SLOW, TURN ONLY, NO ENTRY are some of the examples of word directional messages.

· Directional boards are the most informative of all the above, it shows the arrows as well as the word message guiding the drivers in the correct order.

Reserved Parking’s For Handicapped

Particular parking spots should be reserved for the disabled to make them feel comfortable and to encourage them that are just like others and can do anything.

· Parking spots for handicapped should be in one particular lane making it easy for them to navigate in and out of the spot, instead of dispersing the spot in between the parking lot.

· The place should be marked specifically with the handicap sign so others would not park in the spot reserved for disabled people.
